Buying a Short Sale Listing Be prepared to wait. The minimum amount of time is 45 days, up to 3 months. Why buy a short sale? Less competition than buying a foreclosure and usually the seller has kept the property in good condition and the yard is still alive. Make sure the listing agent has experience in doing short sales. There is a right and wrong way to do a short sale. Wrong way, and it will never close. Worried that prices are still falling? Once the short sale has been approved by the bank, you will do your appraisal. Usually, the bank will reduce the price to whatever the appraised price comes out to be.
